OK, people. The place he sent me to was a joke (they never even heard of functional buttonholes!). Can anyone help me? Any decent tailor in Rockland, or anywhere between Rockland and the City?

I didn't know you needed the iGent specifics, i.e. working buttonholes. She probably didn't want to change your single breasted jackets into double breasted, or add vents to your unvented jackets. Good luck!

I live in Rockland County.

For minor jobs - hemming of khakis, changing buttons on a jacket, etc - I use my local dry cleaner. For serious alterations... it's half an hour to NYC for God's sake, where there is serious talent. I used to use a tailor on the Upper East Side, now gone.

Find someone in the city to give you a recommendation or two, that's my best advice. It will be worth the drive and the parking, as you seem to care about this.

If I'm driving during a regular tailor's business hours, it's a lot more than half-an-hour. Either way, who DO you recommend in the city?

I used to frequent a tailor on East 87th who did very good work. He's gone now and I don't have a current suggestion but many here will be able to offer theirs. If you think about how long you will wear the result, for me it's worth the time and effort to get the work done well.

All purpose. Someone who can alter any suit in any way I need it altered. Who makes beautiful, hand-cut-and-sewn button-holes, etc.
