Tailor in Hong Kong

Hi All,

This forum has been VERY helpful.
I will be in HK at end of December to January 4th. I plan to get a suit made (have booked my first appt with W.W. Chan). I also want to get many pairs of pants made. I want to save some $$ and think pants require less precision than jackets. Which tailor do you recommend for pants? Or do you think I shld stick w/ Chan? I'd appreciate any input.

Is this your first appointment with Chan, or do they already have a pattern for you?

In either event, it is most unwise to get "many" of any item from any tailor on a first order. You might consider getting just a couple of extra pairs of pants from Chan on this go-round. At least, they are more likely to approximate perfection than most of the cheaper HK tailors. Once they have tweaked your pattern to your satisfaction, you can order by e-mail from them.

Otherwise, Jantzen seems to enjoy the best reputation of the less-expensive HK tailors among the forum culture and might be the best option for less-expensive trousers. Again, I would caution against overdoing it in the quantity department.

any of the indian/ pakistani tailors on in TST near chan will be able to do you some okish dress pants ether in the in cotton , flannel etc ranging from HK $500-1000 depending on the type of fabric you choose, for odd trousers i have used milan tailors on kimberly road in TST they are quick and reliable an IMO do a great job for the money. admittingly not the handy work of chan but in HK you get what you pay for!

Yes, my first ever appointment w/ Chan. Good advice, I will buy in moderation. I plan to visit Jantzen for shirts, so will inquire abt trousers too. Seems like Gordon Yao is worth a look too. Thanks.

Just had the second fitting, which went really well. Gordon is a bit more up-to-date and in-line with our thoughts and views as compared to Patrict @ Chan, and from the fitting, the coat looks better than Chan's. I will have it ready second week of January.

Around HK$4000 for workmanship (Customer's Own Material). Otherwise, he charged me HK$9000 for a blazer made from H. Lesser's 13 oz book. Distributors in Hong Kong for H&S, Lesser's, etc, really have no scruples in marking up prices, even for old books, so I'd strongly advise bringing your own fabric.

Do you have the finished product? We've been holding our collective breath. Also, does he always take a month? My timeframe would be more like a week.

No When I go he is quite happy with a week as long as you attend for fitings.

Jantzen works out of a tiny store that has enough room for 8 people and he is getting crazy amounts of business -- so much that he can barely provide in-store service. In fact, when I picked up my shirts, I claimed them in the hallway because the store was overflowing w/ customers. I'm surprised he has the bandwidth to fill any internet orders.
