T-shirts: American Apparel vs. BR/Gap

Any thoughts on the solid colour or ringer tees that American Apparel sells? I have never tried them, but ordering from them online (to Canada) is very reasonable.

I would take American Apparel. Stitching isn't quite as sturdy but the fit is worlds better and they are made in LA by people who make more money than I do.

It's interesting that BR/Gap made in Honduras shirts would have better stitching. Of course I don't know a lot about construction methods, so I'm sure there is a reason why that is the case. Something like $13USD/hr. right? Yep, more than me too

The AA shirts I have are holding up very well.  If you're skinny (they are cut slim) you'll love them.

I prefer BR's "Classic," mainly because the Medium fits me perfectly whereas the AA Medium shrinks to nipple-showing proportions.  I tried sizing up, but the relaxed fit combined with the shorter length (AA shirts run short too) looks funny to me.

Actually, I would argue that Three Dots makes better tees than either company, they are as soft as the AA, but with much better stitching. The cut is fitted but slightly more generous. But they are also at least twice as expensive.

Thanks for all of the replies. I am pretty skinny and am looking for something reasonably cheap with good quality. I didn't realize that they had stores in Toronto. I think I'll go check them out.

AA is what you're looking for, then. I wear AA t-shirts religiously, they fit like a glove. I'm super skinny and the AA "Small" is perfect.

AA has a store on Queen [Toronto] west of Spadina on the south side of the street. the entire facade of the store is white the material is nice and soft, but they are slim cut, with small heck openings. or i just have a thick neck

Gap's "Stretch" t-shirts are really fitted, but unfortunately they don't come in many colors. I'm going to get some AA shirts soon and compare them.

You can find cheap AA shirts on ebay. I bought a lot of 12 shirts for 60 bucks or so. I don't think AA shirts are worth it if you're paying retail (but what's worth paying retail for nowadays anyway? hehe). For around 5 or 6 bucks, they're great.

I just got my first AA shirt a couple months back, decided to with a medium and it is the best fitting t-shirt that I own. I am not super skinny but its a great slim fit. I am planning on buying a few more before my trip.

I hate the fabric on those. They're only 3-5% poly, as I recall; they still feel like plastic. Decent plastic, but even so. Personally, I have some ts from BR that I like, but they're hardly worth what they charge for them. AA is a much better value, and they certainly don't make bad stuff.
