I'm 5'8" and tend to find that probably half of the t shirts that I try on at stores are too long meaning the length is somewhere around my rear end instead of being around the belt.

I've never ordered t shirts online because of this issue. My question is there a measurement that can tell me from online stores that the t shirt will fit proper? I would like to order from online since I tend to hate the generic selections in the stores around me.

A t-shirt which ends at your belt is very short. It's about an inch away from being a belly shirt. Of course it's fine if that's what you like, but I wouldn't call it a "proper fit". I can't say I've ever seen measurements posted for t-shirts... have you looked at the more "modern" clothiers like Express, Pac-Sun, etc? I can't say they're my favorite, but hey; it's a t-shirt. They'll fit slim/short for sure.

No you're right not that short(I really didn't think that through), somewhere longer than the belt but not going down to your middle rear.

I dunno, I can find various t shirts that are proper fits but lets say I want to order something with graphics online(certain rare band or whatever) its like a complete crap shoot which is why can't find any decent tshirts that isn't plain. Haven't tried Express, Pac-Sun but Guess stuff seems to be all cut for guy's that are at least 6'1".
