Sweater (vest)+tie? Khakis?

I recently got a brown argyle sweater with lighter brown pattern on the front, as well as a dark heather sweater vest. I also kind of like the sweater/sweater vest + tie look but I'm not sure what color shirt to buy for underneath. I was thinking beige/light brown at first but I'm not sure. Suggestions?

I'm also really skinny and relatively short so I tend to have trouble finding anything in stores that actually fits me, so I'm not sure if there's a specific place that has stuff for me that I'm just missing or what.

I also have a quick question about straight fit jeans/khakis. I'm looking for new jeans and also a pair of khaki pants to go with the sweater. I like the well-fitted look, but hate the "skinny jeans" look. Judging from pictures it looks like straight fit would be good for me?

Khakis will work, cords perhaps?

For shirts, white, cream, light blue.

I like brown, but it looks better with a punch of a non beige/brown tone. I'd wear a white shirt with a blue tie or a blue shirt w/ a tie back in the browns.

For shirts, I agree with ktrp. Your best bets are white, light blue, cream and the like. Basic Oxfords and such. Look for "slim fit" or "fitted" when buying shirts. And there's always online. LL Bean oxfords come in every size imaginable and they have slimmer fits in basic colors.

And yes, straight fit is what you're looking for.
