I understand from several threads in the archives that Swaine Adeney Brigg makes briefcases for Brooks Brothers under the Peal & Co. label.

I'm wondering which of the Peal cases are in fact made by SAB. I'm particularly interested in Peal #3 but am considering the others as well. I have pulled out a SAB picture of a similar case that looks very close to my eye.

Also, if anyone has owned a Peal, I'd welcome your input. I would also like to know if there would be any disadvantage to buying Peal over SAB, such as if they use second grade leathers for the Peal cases as they do for some of the cases available a the Papworth website.

Many thanks.

I own a Brigg and have handled the Peals. The Brigg is nice, but I must confess that the best part about it is the potent smell of leather when first opened. Otherwise, it just strikes me as a nice briefcase. I can't see anything about it that makes it head and shoulders above the Peal cases, though perhaps time will prove me wrong.

Giving Brigg the benefit of the doubt, I'd guess the leather is nicer on the SABs, but I'm skeptical that would make much difference in terms of day-to-day wear.

I have a Brooks (labeled "Peal & Co.") bridle leather lid-over-box. It's the "Peal #1" that you've pictured. It came with an insert on how to care for the leather with the SAB name, address, royal warrants, etc.

I exchanged e-mails with SAB about it (and to purchase their hide food -- great stuff). I also sent them pictures of the case and the Peal label. They confirmed that they it's theirs, but that it is from their machine-made series. Nonetheless, it's a great case, and I expect to carry it forever.

One of these days, I'll post it in the briefcase thread, as soon as I learn how to include pictures in my posts. . .

Can someone please point me to a tutorial on how to post pictures? Thanks.

Swaine Adeney manufactured the box attache cases for the final years that Brooks sold them. Swaine Adeney was sold and the new owner decided for some reason to no longer wholesales or do private label. So after over 80 years of offering a box style bridle leather English attache case,Brooks brothers stopped selling them
