Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see which piece is discordant or unexpected in Parker's fit? I think a much better option would be to mix some Yohji with some Chan.

also we should have a rule - only new pics. old pics are boring! do something new.

I agree with that, and thought it was implicit.

Re: parker, you don't think there is something out of place with a velvet dinner jacket, a graphic tee and...gladiator sandals?

it has kind of a luxe loungey vibe, music producer having brunch at spago circa 1993.. maybe if it was a tailored jacket? but the sandals don't scream 'unexpected' to me.

The only applause you are hearing for this comment is the clapping of foreheads and palms

hehehe, I agree with you Teger… this sounded a little more incongruent in my head. after seeing photo, it's just sorta blends -- not enough clash. I said it was a weak attempt :) the other day I tried this with some yohji pants with a piombo blazer (in regular waywt)… that still was a little blah.

I think the trickiest part of this is clashing but still looking good/interesting (duh).

you have a ton of incongruent stuff - yohji, junya, italian tailored - im sure you can come up with something good

i think the fit does look cohesive. but at the same time the pieces are individually discordant.

that being said, is the goal of the challenge to be discordant and obviously clash/look blatantly discordant, or to put together items that are in fact individually discordant, but look cohesive when paired together?

    sorry for "MC-ing" this conversation.

i was under the impression it was to take pieces that are discordant, and clash, but wear them in such a way that the clashing doesn't matter?

Yeah. If just the idea of the garments is at odds, but together it looks right, well... That's just mixing brands, which is what we all do (besides Regis)

I would think brands don't matter. Couldn't one put together a discordant fit with all items from the same brand?

Tegs, so you think the answer is somewhere in the middle of my options?

I suppose this is as good a place as any to ask:

Why does SWD put so much emphasis on brands? In this thread, I've seen mention of "brand clashing" (or something along those lines). Are there certain brands that aren't worn together, or is it that the styles those brands embody generally don't work well together (and if so, why not just refer to the style? Is it that the style is so individualized to the brand?). I've also noticed in WAYWT thread, y'all consistently post the brands of the stuff you guys wear (after someone mentioned the fabrics used, another poster stated that fabrics without the brands were useless...though I suspect that he was being tongue in cheek). My guess is that it has something to do with the massive variety of styles get posted on this side of the forum (while CM basically only has 2 families)
