I ordered Silent Histories because it is quite similar to a project she is working on... She is archiving all of her japanese aunt's photos (she's half french and half japanese) and also working on a project about her uncle who had ties to yakuza who mysteriously disappeared several years back... I just hope she doesn't already have it. If she does, it looks like a beautiful book so I'm quite happy to keep it.

    Thanks again!

I was reminded of the existence of Edward Sheriff Curtis - a photographer who spent a long time taking photos of Native American tribal life which, at the time, he saw as disappearing (and it seems he was right).

I love these photos, but they make me feel quite saddened too. My mother grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and it's remarkable how much has changed, and in some ways that's for the worse.

I really think everyone should have a read of this article: https://www.lightstalking.com/edward-sheriff-curtis/

    Here are some taster images:

Fantastic loaded to the hilt with varying cultural and mythological signifiers. Love it.

impromptu desert photo shoot was quite fun , overcast skies so lighting sucked in the beginning but then the brilliant rays came out toward the end

feel like i may as well use my fashion experience/knowledge/things i've learned about myself via that medium to inform the direction i take my photography, since i'm a pretty blank slate in terms of influences. taken a couple classes, but have never really done a deep dive.

i think most of you are a lot farther along than i am, so would love some recs

re: clothes + themes they remind me of. i like/wear:

    yohji - classic, movement
    abasi - future, elegance
    acronym - pragmatism, utility
    lemaire - new classics, restrained
    jjve - freedom
sftm - romance. women's is usually better, also random but uma wang's womens is ridiculously romantic in a good way. harnden goes here too, i guess.
m001 soon - a bit of subversion, weird

who/what should i be looking into that fits these themes/aesthetics in the world of photography? i feel like finding interesting, high-quality source material to learn from is half the battle for me

Thought I'd play too. These are just a few faves from the past month, not any sort of coherent project, so they are a little schizophrenic when viewed all together I guess. Here goes anyway. All are with a Fuji X100F except for the pic of the kids in the pool and Danny Ray which are with the X-T2.

At the March for Science. Colors are not Photoshopped, I just got lucky with the "HER" matching the coat of the girl and the globe matching the woman in front of her.
