I like the fit of that bedford, @ManofKent , great look.

So the consensus seems to be that I bit off more than I could sartorially chew with my first attempt, so taking the advice of @el Bert and others I tried to simplify things:

Much better, although personally I think the shawls ideally need a jacket/sweater/cardigan underneath (tricky in this mild weather!)

That piece has way too much stylistic weight to just throw over a button down + chinos + birks. You need more and different layers. It has a very high degree of difficulty, obviously.

Unfortunately the camera is away for a week, so I will have to make due with my iPhone (which kind of sucks because picking up textures isn't the iPhones strongest suit)
