Anybody got any opinions on the Sutor Dress Brown Pebble Wingtips? Are they worth the bread? They run big or true to size? Anybody know the shoes I am talking about?

Thanks

In my opinion, these are very fine shoes, and it would be hard to find a better source to buy from than STP, with their return policy and overall honest and fair-minded business practices. I think we can assume that those particular shoes come from the top or close-to-the-top SM line and would, I'm sure, incorporate a fair amount of hand work. If a pebble-grain full brogue appeals to you, you'll probably have a hard time finding a pair that is superior at that price (and remember that today, at least, you'll get a further 20% off, making the price about $480). Few sizes left, however. I have two pairs of SMs (not that model), and both fit true to size (i.e., I'm a true 9.5, and 9.5 SMs are a good fit); I'm a big fan in general of SM. One small thing that I don't really like about those particular shoes is the visible (on the outside) grommets in the eyelets. I'm all for grommets in eyelets, but I prefer the ones that show on the underside, but not on the outside. That feature, however, would probably not prevent me from buying those shoes if I were in the market.

I have 4 pairs of Sutor Mantellassi's. The top line runs true to size, perhaps running a bit on the large end. They fit me very well.

I like the wingtip tassel loafers, but I'm sure I'm in the minority

Not wild about the color or price. Give Gary (Drinkwater) a buzz, he'll put you into these Carminas for much less.

Something about the shape of the toe on those Carminas isn't doing it for me.

Those Carmina longwings are pretty nice shoes, but represent a quite different, and far more casual, concept than the SM brogues. My assumption was that jjgold was looking for oxfords, although I could be wrong about this.

Hey, $355 v. $600 should render those a secondary concern

Alright now I am ALL confused...who is Drinkwater? Um I am not familiar with Carmina...are they close to the Mantellassi? I am not looking for casual...I will be wearing these with a suit.

Thanks

You know I like the shoes Aportnoy but hate shoes with the serrated tops around the shoe and toungue. It always seems to dig into my ankle.

These also have a dainite sole wich is quite difficult to find on a RTW oxford that is remotely good looking.

I got a pair last winter from STP for about $300. They're great country shoes with the double sole and really durable leather. I really like them. They run a little bit big but thats probably because they're not meant to be worn with dress socks.
