Spicy tuna/spicy salmon is good in theory, but the itamae just throws the scrap fish in there. It's the sushi equivalent of bad chorizo.

I dont like seafood but can eat sushi. My favorite is toro. I also like assorted veggie rolls, beef roll, and anything with unagi (esp "Caterpillar" roll)

That was a classic Simpsons episode, btw.
My brother the marine biologist has the annoying habit of attempting to explain to me in detail all the reasons why we won't eat sushi. (Generally speaking, rhymes with farasites.) Generally I tell him to stfu and order some pizza, since he's free to not eat sushi if he wants but I don't want him spoiling it for me.

Nigiri zushi is the slice of fish pressed onto a bed of rice. It's more or less the classic sushi.

Maki zushi is the name for sushi rolls.

Sashimi is raw fish without the rice. It comes on a bed of shredded daikon radish with a shiso leaf (beefsteak leaf in English -- curious name -- related to mint) and a small mound of wasabi.

You've been to Salumi? Harvest Vine is a tapas bar that I met j at. They have a pretty good imported chorizo, if I recall.

I'd have to say lobster sashimi. My favorite places are Sushi-Ko in D.C. (on par with anything I've eaten, including moniker-driven eats like Nobu), Konami at Tyson's (a little sterile but the food is good) and Sucilee's in my hometown of Winchester, Virginia (how the hell we have a place like this in my hometown I dunno'; several sushi spots, but Sucilee's could be a K Street mainstay).

I'll eat just about any kind of sushi in general since I'm not too concerned about being a puritist, so I mostly shoot for something like a catepillar since the avocado and unagi give it the best of both worlds.

While there's times I just like straight sashimi, LA has a place called California Sushi & Roll (or is it California Roll & Sushi...****, two chains with similar names) has a snow corn roll that is out of this world although it does tend to mask a bit of the taste of the fish. Still, it's a party in your mouth.

I prefer mine in eggs with cheese, black beans, and salsa stuffed into a breakfast burrito. Now that's good eating.
