Sure, it's reversible, but do you use it?

I have never owned a reversible coat before and have been looking at some. But, I'm wondering, will I ever really use the "reversible" aspect or is that just a gimmick?

If you own reversible jackets, do you actually take advantage of it or not? Do you find it utility worth having (even if, I suppose, you're probably trading off a single nicer coat for essentially a 2-in-1)?

Good point. I ordered recently this nice Herno 'a la Lora Piana' bomber jacket from the Yoox clearance. I thought one side is navy the other beige, but it's a reversible navy on both sides, silk and cotton. I do not see much difference between the two and I do not know if I'll ever wear it on both sides.

Very useful to anyone on a small budget or someone just starting to establish their wardrobe.
The idea that appeals to me most about them is if something gets spilled on you,
there is an emergency option to carry on the day with the same jacket.
I've owned reversible windbreakers in the past and definitely used boths sides equally.

I never thought of that as an option - while it sounds convenient, I hesitate at the idea of reversing it and putting the "soiled" side against my shirt (of course, unless outward appearances trump the shirt).

I had a Helly Hansen jacket about 10 years ago, fleece one side and raincoat the other. Although it mostly worn with the fleece on the outside, I did use the raincoat side when required.

Ahhhh - now that sounds like a legitimate + useful point. The ones I had looked at were only reversible for stylistic reasons, I don't think I'd seen one that was different materials on different sides. That could be quite handy - especially on days with mixed weather.

Had a jacket that is reversible. I have only reversed it once in the 3 years I owned it.
