Looking for a good sunless tanning cream for my face that won't make me look orange...Have you guys had any success with or heard good things about certain brands?? Also, if you respond, please let me know what store I can pick it up at...

Thx in advance.

My favorite sunless tanner overall is Paula's Choice Almost the Real Thing (available at www.paulaschoice.com) which has a pleasant gel consistency and no added fragrance. There are lots more good options, but remember that you don't necessarily need a ST that is labeled for faces only - most brands just package the same exact product for both faces and body, only you get less product for your money if you buy the one labeled faces. I recommend the website www.sunless.com for lots of product reviews and application tips. If you are prone to orangeness, then I would recommend trying either the "LL method" (which consists of diluting the ST) or the "Brent method" (which consists of leaving the ST on your skin for a shorter period of time), because both methods have helped a lot of orange-prone people. You can do a search for detailed instructions for both methods on the sunless.com messageboards.

Regarless of which brand you end up buying, be careful:

1) don't get them in your eyes and remember not to rub your eyes if the gel/cream/lotion has been applied in the eye area (it hurts fiercely)

2) beware of light clothing (neckline): they do come off.

Sunless tanners do not come off on clothing, but bronzers do. Many products contain both.

I wasn't aware there was a difference. I'm glad I learnt something. I might try to find one that doesn't come off, because the one I used a couple-three times (labelled "Self-tanning lotion") was not all that pleasant to use, even though the results were nice. Given that most of these products' labels were translated from another language into English, I would still be careful: they may not have been translated accurately.

Does the one you recommend come off on clothing? I found it, and it is labelled: "Self-tanning gel". When I say that mine comes off on clothing, I mean you actually have to rub pretty hard before it does, but if you wear a white shirt a whole day, chances are there will be traces of brown in the evening.

Actually, there is always that risk of trace amounts of color getting on your clothes (although never as much as with products containing bronzers) but as far as I can tell it is an indirect effect - from the flaking off of dead tanned skin.

The problem is extremely minimal after you wash off the ST, which is one reason for which I usually apply ST before bed and rinse it off in the morning. Another reason is that I do not like to go out in public with ST on because of the smell of dihydroxyacetone (DHA).

The Paula's Choice gel has a small amount of bronzer (also called a "color guide" since it can help show where you have applied) in it, courtesy of caramel, which doesn't stain very much. It's actually getting hard to find STs with absolutely no added color, although Neutrogena, Clinique (avoid the Clinique products that say "instant bronze"), and Clarins make good options. Personally, I cannot tolerate the added fragrance in the Neutrogena and Clarins products, and I find some of the Clarins STs way overpriced.

Be careful if you have dry skin. I have *slightly* dry skin, and the Clarins product ripped my face to shreads, causing blistering from being too dry. BTW it wasn't an allergic reaction.
