I won these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...:X:AAQ:US:1123

Seller represented them as new, but there are a couple of small scratches on the lenses, and they don't affect vision. They look pretty superficial but won't go away when I try rubbing one out with the lens cloth.

Anyway, is this something that's easily fixed? I.e., do I let the seller off the hook b/c it'll be easier just to take them to an optics shop and get the scratches removed? Will this screw up UV protection or the photochromic quality of the lens?

Thx,

Ed

The scratch is either in the coating or in the lens itself. To be able to fix the lens, they have to remove the coating using something like armor etch. I don't know if you can reapply the coating again after or not. If you really like them and the scratches aren't big keep them, but I don't think you'll be able to do much about the scratch without affecting the polarization and any other coatings on them.

Just wore these outside; the nicks/scratches do affect optics quality.

Oliver Peoples says scratches can't be polished out. I'm asking the seller for a $75 refund to pay for new lenses (FYI - OP quoted $75 for non-polarized, $100 for polarized). Otherwise, she'll get a return or chargeback. Stupid to screw around on your first sale...

Anyway, she refused. The chargeback was easy as pie. Do sellers ever win these battles? As it stands now, I've got the sunglasses and my money. It almost seems criminal. What do I do now? I want to send them back to her, but I also want to make sure I win the dispute before I do...
