Looking to buy a spring/summer sport jacket mainly for casual evening wear. Going to Napa in June and I hear it can get cool at night. Will wear with chinos and jeans mostly. I have no sport coats or Blazers so this will be my first. I'm 43, 5'7 160 athletic build. Been looking at Uniqlo's offerings, JCF Topman, would like to keep under $ 100. I don't know what fabric or color would be best. I have many color chinos and lots of odd trousers, as I dress casual year round, but put together, button downs, polos, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Go on eBay. Pick up a previously owned, but mint condition, 100% wool, Brooks Brothers navy blazer (preferably, not Brooks' "outlet" 346 line), for comfortably under $100.

Hey, it's a wardrobe staple for a reason. And great blazers, in mint condition, routinely sell on the used market for pennies on the dollar.

Unless you're frequently going to be using your blazer for a pillow, or stuffing it into a small carry-on bag, get 100% wool. (If you will frequently be using it for a pillow or stuffing it into a small carry-on bag, then okay, get one that's a wool/poly blend. Yeah, it'll wrinkle less. But for most men, most of the time, the 100% version is the right one.)

P.S. - Wear it with chinos (if not with wool pants). You're 43 years old, and jeans w/blazer looks precisely 5.7% less good for every year since one has graduated from college. :)

Thanks for the advice. Thinking of getting something from Combat Gent. Although I am watching out for BB on eBay. Looking for something more casual than BB. I will probably rarely wear a tie with what I'm looking for. Just something to put on casually over polo shirt or button down, maybe even Henley or v neck.

Linen. Get a linen jacket. Cooler wearing and more casual than wool.

If you're looking for something that casual, definitely linen. Nice texture and nice casual look. My favorite is my blue linen, not the biggest fan of grey.
