No, I live in NYC and wearing pants/jeans throughout the entire summer would be stupid.

Disagree. What about walking down along San Francisco bay? There are way too many perfect summery situations for shorts to limit them to the beach or "the tennis court."

I'm strongly in the disagree camp too. I was on a 5th floor walkup on the UWS for a while so I'm definitely pro-shorts in July and August. It seemed like an odd statement so I was curious what others thought.

i think this quote was taken out of context and is a blowback against the american tendency to "casualize" fashion down to wearing jeans at the symphony and shorts in the office. i am sure if certain fashion forward scenarios with shorts in the city were presented to him he would deem them acceptable. however, this is just the kind of quote to get people talking and head swiveling like chickens at a cocktail party.
