Light colors after Memorial Day and before Labor Day, roughly. But how light is too light? Also, are khaki trousers considered light? They show up reasonably frequently in WAYWN in winter (for example).

I think that fabric weight and texture are more important than color. White flannels, heavier cottons and cords, and the like are all fine.

+1 "Winter white" (cream) flannels are as classic as it gets.

I think the weather counts for something. Lighter colours seem more appropriate on a sunny winter day, rather than a dark one.

I have a light grey heavy flannel suit that I wear in winter, but I do reserve it for sunny, yet cold days.

Pay more attention to materials rather than colors. Colors dont keep you warm fabrics do!
