Would you guys suggest, if I were to to OTR, to let them tailor it, or go to Pierre of Paris (how much should i be expecting to pay for basic stuff?)

Still on the fence to go OTR or MTM.

Sweeping generalizations about what's best for people aren't very productive. I definitely think there's a place for MTM in the spectrum and one shouldn't just jump from OTR to bespoke.

Personally, a 40L napoli from SS would have fit me 'good enough' by quite a few people's standards. But if I really wanted to dial in the fit, OTR+tailoring would have been cost prohibitive, if even possible. With regards to the napoli fit, I have the shoulders of a 40 but the chest of a 42 and the waist of a 38. Using MTM, I was able to let out the chest, bring in the waist, shorten the jacket sligthly, and lower the button stance. I also have a rather skinny 15.25" neck for my build and would need extensive collar/lapel work on any OTR suit to get the fit exactly how I wanted. My right shoulder is also slightly lower and my arms aren't the same length. These are just a few of the adjustments that add up quickly with OTR but are easily accounted for with MTM.

I feel like almost anyone could have a similar list of tweaks that individually don't seem like much but, as a whole, really elevate the fit to the next level. So the question you should ask yourself when deciding between OTR or MTM is what do you consider 'good enough'?

    "Like a glove"

As long as OTR fits okay enough for me to make some alterations without having to pay 200+, that's the route I think I'l go, otherwise MTM it is!

I don't get it - who made a sweeping generalization?

Someone said that MTM isn't really necessary for most sport coats unless you have an unnatural physique and then you posted saying you get MTM because you have an unnatural physique.

Maybe you meant to agree with him and not have that first paragraph in there...?

Also, I don't feel like almost anyone could rack up that many needed alterations (speaking of sweeping generalizations, lol) for OTR just to get it to fit properly.

Most people have a size that's a close enough fit and needs < $100 in alterations.

if someone routinely needs that much in alterations for an OTR jacket they really do have an unnatural physique or they're probably buying things in the wrong cuts for their body.

Yep, I generally just need to take in the waist and hem the trousers. That's around $35, not much at all.

Same for me. Slight sleeve adjustments, and once or twice I had a slight amount of excess fabric up near the back of the collar or along the sides of the jacket.

I'm a 40R almost always and have never paid over $50 for fit alterations. And the times it got even close to that amount were because I also upgraded the buttons on the jacket.

Because a copenhagen or havana in size 36R costs me 469 + 40 for sleeve & pants adjustments :D

actually, they have a blue line MTM which only cost $600. I had to get a suit for my bros wedding and it required true navy. The Napoli fit me pretty well OTR at 469... maybe need to shorten the sleeves and obviously the pants which would cost, i dunno another $60, maybe more bc i think the Napoli has working buttonholes. The Napoli Navy is not a true navy but is lighter. The London Blue is pretty much True Navy but the London is much looser so I did the MTM which is based on the Napoli fit and got it in the London Blue fabric/color. $600 with post suit alterations included if necessary.

If I were to order a 38L, do they change the button stance from a 38R?

Going for the Havana Blue Plain Linen.

The button stance on my 38L Havana is lower than my 38R Havana.

Is there a general consensus on the relationship between SS's size advisor versus what you size you guys ultimately selected?

With the more classic cut (i.e. Sienna, Napoli, Jort, Lazio) it can be trusted imho. For the more modern cuts, I usually get one size up (& a long size).

They released their S/S 14' preview. I'm already in love with this jacket.

Can you take pictures maybe side by side? That's the exact size I'm ordering and I'd love to see the difference.. specifically any of the 38L. And how tall are you?
