Suitsupply fits great, reason to go full canvas?

SuitSupply suits currently fit me perfectly. No need for any tailoring or MTM. Just wanted to know if my primary concern is the half-canvas construction being ruined from too many dry cleaning visits and how well my suit will hold up, is this a good enough reason to get MTM full canvas suits? I don't need it to perfectly drape my body, as SuitSupply fits perfect, and I do have a good rotation (wear suits once a week, and have ~4-5, so these suits are primarily being worn <15 times a year, each). Or is this a stupid reason to get bespoke or MTM? I just read that it's possible when you send your half-canvassed suits to the dry cleaner, they can get "bubbles" from the dry cleaning?

You'll be fine. The canvas matters most in the chest, full canvas doesn't get you that much more than half. It's better, sure, but twice the price for not much gain. I wouldn't worry about the fusing giving out, the adhesives have gotten dramatically better over the decades. If suit supply fits well, stick with it.

Nothing wrong with off the rack if you like it and it fits you well.

I've seen so many threads in WAYWN and was surprised to see the great jacket was a SS, as oppose to bespoke.
Similarly I've seen many an expensive bespoke house on here the garment looked completely unremarkable. Not bad, but just unremarkable, might as well have gone to Marks and Spencer suit department. And I'm someone who sometimes uses relatively expensive makers myself.

Bespoke doesn't always equal a magic result with the wow factor, especially if you already fit quite well off the rack with a good high street maker.

Could not agree more with jedwards. Try to minimize dry cleaning unless completely necessary. Regardless of make, it will degrade fabric over time.

Not sure if this would help you, but I have a pretty new dryer with a steam refresh option (15 min) that I use all the time. I've dramatically reduced my dry cleaning because of it. If you have one available, I would consider using that instead of dry cleaning.

I echo the sentiment. No need to change if it's working well for you. I'm not a weird body type, but still enough that I have to go MTM. I do it primarily for fit, then partly for more interesting fabrics, but if you're getting a good look out of OTR stick with it.

I have several SuitSupply suits and blazers of various lines and cuts. As a lawyer I have occasion to wear and dry clean them pretty regularly. Never had any issues with bubbling. Some of them are almost 4 years old and are still holding up really well (knock on wood).

The only time that you really need to dry clean your suits if if they get dirty. No need for weekly/bi-weekly cleaning.

Its definitely a legitimate concern, and if you read a lot of the threads on this forum, you would think it would be a no-brainer to go with a half or full canvas. And generally speaking, they are better and last longer.

But I think @cptjeff said it right, in that for good quality suits, the fusing has gotten a lot better in recent years, so a fused suit isn't necessarily crap. A bad quality one is bad, and the fusing is part of that, but there can be well-constructed fused suits that will still last 5+ years without issuing. With the minimal dry-cleaning that people recommend, and I agree with.

Full canvas is defnitely a good thing, it just isn't always the obvious choice because as you know it comes with a higher price tag. So its a balance depending on what type of suit you want, the fabric, how often you'll wear it and how you want it to last/ fit.

If I were to wear a well made suit twice a year I wonder if it would last for decades... ? I'm thinking of buying 3 suits next Spring and don't see myself wearing a suit more than 6 times a year, so on average each suit being worn twice a year at most.

Well made suits can last for decades with far more frequent wear than that. Even poorly made suits can last for decades with more wear than that. If you wear a suit 6 times a year, I can't see any reason you would need 3, surely one would suffice. Charcoal or Navy, and noboby would ever notice or care that it's the only one you owned.

I'd have to think you're joking.....no? At that rate, I'd worry more about you than the suit.
