I love the simplicity of suits... not much thinking going on, throw on a shirt, tie and shoes and you're done... I'd like to see more ideas of combining jackets etc... I hate how the Italians just now how to do it... so stylish to mix and match... any thoughts?

Suits are best. Every now and then an odd jacket is warranted but suits are best, primarily because they are relatively neutral and serve as a back drop for accessories while so many odd jackets can seem pigeon holed for a particular use.

I am gravitating more to sportcoats and away from suits as I age, though I have not been able to come up with a cogent explanation as to why that might be.

Well, aside from perhaps being more stylish - if less formal - buying great quality jackets seem MUCH cheaper than buying the suit from the same manufacturer... does anyone else find this to be true?

It is a lot more difficult to pull it off though - the Italians do it better than anyone else, not so much here in NYC where the suit is king (except for expats from Europe), or streetwear....

No a good jacket is no less expensive then a similar quality suit from the same company. The only difference is you aren't paying up front for the pants but you are going to wear pants. Right?

If anything I get the impression a suit might be cheaper then a jacket and pants bought separately.

Sorry, should have clarified.

Jackets available on B&S and Ebay seem much less expensive (the secondary market).... let me see if I can figure out how to post a few links
