I recently purchased a new Italian suit. It is a 3 button light gray. The brand is Fabio Inghirami. It was on sale for $400 and was originally $795.

I was curious to know how well this suit ranks with more expensive ones. In other words, how well did I do with this sale? Thanks for any input.

i once had a shirt by that manufacturer, in 1995, but haven't really seen the name since. what do the lapels and buttonholes look like (stitching, etc.)?

by the way, is there a neiman marcus near you? you may want to go try on, and see the details of, suits from Oxxford, Brioni, Kiton, etc. to get a good idea of what to look for in a quality suit. in the less expensive models, of course, you won't get everything these suits have, but you'll see some key points on what you can look for (edge stitching on lapels, shoulder shape from hand-felling, the look and feel of hand-stitched buttonholes, etc). Also, you may want to read up on 'buying a quality suit' in one of Alan Flusser's books.

    -my 2 cents

    Hey Foxx guy,
Thanks for the reply.  There is no hand stitching in this suit; however, it looks nice.  Of course being brand new, I would expect it to be.

We do not have Neiman Marcus here; however, there are a few men's specialty stores in my area.  One of these stores carries such names as Canali, Burberry and Hickey-Freeman.

Of course, all of above suits look great from what limited experience I've had looking at them.  However, it seems unlikely that I would ever find one of the above brands for the sale price I got on my Fabio Inghirami brand.

Anyhow, thanks again for the input and your suggestions on the book.

Scott: You can get Canali suits on sale for $599 at Bluefly sometimes, and you might check sierratradingpost.com -- they carry Corneliani suits for about $599, and sometimes mark them down even further, to $499 for a special week-long sale.
