    Hey all,

I bought a Theory suit that I found for dirt cheap, but I realized when I brought it home there was no pocket for a pocket squares (upper left). All my suits have this, and the more I look at it, the more strange it seems. Whats everyone's opinion and the etiquette in this regard?

The lack of a breast pocket is a feature found in old formalwear, like frock coats and swallowtail coats for eveningwear (evening tailcoats). Around 1900, it signaled that the coat was intended for the most formal occasions.

What does it mean on a Theory suit coat? Who knows? Probably just acknowledging that most people nowadays don't put a handkerchief in their breast pocket. It will give you something of the look of the big, solid color block that pocketless frock coats had.

um, do you mean there's no pocket there at all or that there's a slit but it seems to be 'false'? (in which case it's probably just sewn shut and needs to be snipped and will open)

    can you post pictures?

If you buy second hand goods then you run risks, presumably you did not inspect it as you could have rejected it there and then?

The etiquette is to burn it and put it out of its and everyone else's misery. The economic solution is return it. One thing is certain, don't wear it save at a fancy dress party or ball.

No breast pocket is a deal breaker....return and demand refund.

Does it have welt pockets, or jetted ones? You could turn the jacket into a 3 - patch (or just have patch breast pocket sewn on if you want to be a crazy motherfucker).
