Suit sizing in cm, Direct conversion?

Hello, I recently came over a Corneliani suit that simply had the size "98" and "L" under on the label.

I'm going to assume that the L stands for Long, but would the 98 size directly convert to 38,39 or 40?
This is the first time I've seen cm used for jacket sizing...anyone have some conversion charts?

If you google "imperial metric conversion", you will find lots of tables and tools for converting one to the other.

It probably says "48" and L, meaning 48 Long. "48" is the distance across the chest, in centimeters. To convert to US measurements, double to get the circumference in centimeters and divide by 2.54 to convert centimeters to inches. So a European 48 corresponds to a US 37.8, or approximately a US 38. The quick, approximate conversion is to subtract 10 from the European sizing to get US sizing, but this doesn't work well for larger sizes (for example, a Euro 56 is closest to a US 44).

That's a size for tall people..

Europe has different sizes for:

a) short (Kurzgrösse / untersetzte Grösse)
(normal size / 2)

b) normal (Normalgrösse)
(max. chest - 1 ) / 2

c) long (Langgrösse)
(normal size - 1) * 2

d) Bauchgrösse
(normal size +1)

in other words - the numbers tell you if it's a S(hort), R(egular) or L(ong)....

have a look here:

98 is a 38L or 40L, depending on the cut, yes.

On the contrary to previous replies, the size 98 is a short size 48, equivalent to a US (or UK) 38 short. The "logic" is that 48 is multiplied by 2.

If you would run into a size 148, that would be a long European size 48. Thus, adding a 1 means that it is a long version.
