While looking through some old posts on the subject, I've seen many different opinions. Is there a way to tell if a suit is too large in the shoulders? I have a suit that extends a bit past my shoulder. I don't think it's particularly bad, but I've been told by some people that it looks too big. If needed I can try for fit pics later, just looking for general tips right now.

What i do is take my hand and karate chop the edge of my opposite shoulder bone and should chop right on the shoulder seam. The harder you chop the better it works.

Does the suit feel tight across the back?

Put a shoulder against the wall. If the padding hits the wall before you shoulder bone, the shoulders are too wide.

I think that really depends on how the shoulders of the suits you are wearing are constructed.

I don't know of many variations of shoulder construction. Soft shoulder vs padded shoulder?

You can always take it to a tailor for measurements

It's not tight. It doesn't feel like a dress either, though. It's in that middle gray area. :\\

The shoulders are padded, I believe. I don't think that will tell me much? I'll try it later today though.

Mine is padded, not a soft shoulder.

I'm also looking at buying a new suit that's a touch big and would like to avoid actually paying for it if it's too big.
