Okay, so I am a constant lurker of this forum but mostly post in the streetwear section.

I am going to be 23 soon and I have no suits, let a lone A suit in my closet! I know, kinda crazy...But I am looking to change this very soon but I need some expertise.
I would love to keep the price down, under $1,000 would be most ideal for me. I have checked companies like Banana Republic, etc. but nothing really exciting there. The only thing I have found that looks modern has a modern cut is this Fitzgerald suit from Brooks Brothers.

I do like the styling and the color is very nice. I would actually love to get a grey suit if possible.

My ideal suit would be something like Gieves but I am worried this will be out of my price range, let alone very hard to get.

Any ideas? I am looking for a modern, somewhat slim, grey suit for under 1k.

Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated!

Heck, I have a bunch of suits, some which get me constant compliments. None of them cost anything close to 1000 dollars.

If you are a normal size, stalk ebay for a canali, corneliani or any of the brands bandied around in here. With some minimal prep and checking you can get an AWESOME suit or two for that 1000 dollars you are looking at.

Go to nordstroms and try a few on to figure out if the size is right. They might have a sale going on and you could hit that magic 1000 dollar amount right then and there!

Thanks for the info guys. I have been scouring ebay all the time for some good deals but haven't seen anything worth bidding on. I'm thinking I will feel a little better about the purchase if I buy from a store/retailer.

I just got done looking on men.style.com had they had a really good write up on buying suits. They actually had a Burberry suit listed for $895 and a ZZegna suit for $995. I'll probably just hit up Barneys or Saks after the Holidays.

Any more input?

yea that would be good too if u just hit up a retail place like saks or something during the sales
dont buy burberry though..burberry london sucks so the 895 is def from collection..its too traditional and not slim and modern..if youre going to buy burberry buy the prorsum collection and iw ouldnt spend a 1000k on z zegna when i can buy one for that much from gucci or dolce on sale because it would be better contructed then a z zegna

Do you live anywhere near a good outlet mall? Or have some of the better off-price shops? You will have to dig through quite a few off-sizes and awful patterns but you can usually find some diamonds in the rough. Also, you can hit quite a few stores on the same trip. I personally am always wary of buying suits on eBay or by mail order.

ghulkhan-Thanks for the input. I bet you're right that the Burberry suit listed on men.style isn't very modern.

I don't know of many outlet type stores around me, but there are plenty of malls and department stores. There are also a lot of fine Men's shops that carry multiple brands. One that comes to mind is called Gary's and they are located through out Southern California, it is actually a very nice store and they will be having a sale come mid Jan. I'll see what I can pick up from there as they carry Paul Smith, Zegna, Etro, Armani, Canali, etc.

Oh nice. You know, I have yet to step foot in that Paul Smith store so this will give me an excuse to go check it out.
So they are going to be having a sale there come the first of the year?

Buy a suit from a company known for making suits, not a fashion house!
