Suit - reasonably priced but better than Brooks Brothers?

Hello, I am looking to buy a new suit, solid dark grey/charcoal. I visited Brooks Brothers but unfortunately they don't have much - everything has some additional elements (stripes etc.) and when they ordered a suit in my size in plain colour it turned out that... the fabric was just terrible (not Loro Piano which usually they use). So, I have been wondering what other options I might have except for Brooks Brothers? I live in NYC. I generally need slim cut (I'm *very* slim and wear 38S or 36R). My general opinion regarding styles: Italy>UK>US. I have been planning to spend something around $800-1500 for the suit. Currently my only alternative is Ralph Lauren BL but their suit costs over $1800 which is a bit too much (surprisingly, the same suit in navy is $200 cheaper...). I would be grateful for any suggestions! Best regards, Theriel //Reply to the post below: I am looking for CHARCOAL not NAVY...

Sounds like the RLBL suit in navy is just $100 over budget. Not a big stretch in my opinion.

with that budget if you like brooks bro, and it cut is fine, why not just go MTO or MTM. You can pick the fabric you like

Why not check out all the discounters in nyc first to see if you can get a nice deal. I remember Filenes had some solid black and charcoal oxxfords in their new slim cut for 999, which is much better than Brooks. Check out Century 21. I remember this summer they had mainline Zegna charcoals in fantastic fabric. Both fully canvassed, of course.

I must say I am new to NYC - I don't even know about the existence of these places! I mean, I hardly know anything except for the location of BB, Ralph Lauren and Saks...

Thank you a lot - I will have a look at Filenes and Century 21!
