Suit Pants - Duplicate Pair (can of worms?)

First of all, a brief poll about whether people order a second pair of suit pants...

The can of worms - if the pairs were made at the same time and the tailor supplied the fabric, can you be sure the pants were made from the same roll of fabric? For example, maybe a not-so-reputable tailor has a partial roll left from a previous customer's order.

As for actual wearing, do you store one pair until needed or alternate? If alternating, how do you track which pair is being worn? Different-looking hangers?

Don't buy bespoke or MTM suits from not-so-reputable tailors. Problem solved.

Acoording to your logic, if you order a regular suit with only one pair of trousers, how do you know they'll be made out of the same roll of fabric? Or even if you order an SC only, how can you be sure that the front of the coat is made out of the same roll of fabric as the back?

No, because the customer almost definitely is going to view the suit (or, in the fallacious example, sport coat) right away and likely would notice. He might not even look at the second pair of pants for a while. Someone in another thread implied his tailor allowed him to order a duplicate pair of pants after the fact, without the tailor stating that it's probably from a different roll.

Anyone else?

I believe the contemporary solution is to just buy another suit when your pants wear out

Off-the-rack, yes. Let's hope that is not a trend in custom tailoring.

By the way, an underlying theme in the first post is that possibly a duplicate pair of suit pants is treated somewhat like a spare tire, which often is noticeably different from a regular tire.

I have bought oft separates 2 pants and one jacket. To evenly wear everything I alternated wearing the pants. It's not a sustainable to act throw away a good jacket because the pants have worn. Especially when it's a staple.

When having a suit made, I always get a second pair of pants. I rotate the second pair with the first and get a lot longer life from the suit. BTW, OTR suits used to routinely come with a second pair of trousers.

If it's a staple suit I expect to be wearing frequently, yes. So far, I've not had a problem with pants wearing out though. If you have a decent rotation and take care of your suits with respect to dry cleaning, etc., even one pair of pants should last a really, really long time.

I have some suits with two pairs, more normally now I would have one pair with braces, one with belt.

If it's a staple suit I expect to be wearing frequently, yes. So far, I've not had a problem with pants wearing out though.  If you have a decent rotation and take care of your suits with respect to dry cleaning, etc., even one pair of pants should last a really, really long time.

If the fabric is sturdy, it probably should - but one accident (spilled food not noticed soon, for example) can wreck the pants and therefore render the suit almost useless. Whereas if a suit jacket is wrecked (or outgrown in some parts), there's a fair chance the pants would be wearable as odd pants (which nobody ever discusses).

Are people dry-cleaning the three pieces at the same time? Can a tailor add a bit of fabric near the inner waistband so that the owner can tell the pants apart?
