I have a 3-piece navy blue suit that I hardly ever wear because the jacket collar doesn't fit right despite attempted alterations by two different tailors. Could I wear the pants and vest with a sport jacket without looking "over the top"? Even though almost everybody at work wears business casual at best, I usually wear a jacket and tie, often with a sleeveless sweater in winter (although I usually take off the jacket indoors). It seems a shame to let a perfectly good vest just hang in the closet. The color and fabric look good with several of my jackets.

In theory, yes, but it would depend on the specific sport jacket.

Or given the casualness of your office, maybe just wear the pants and vest, roll up your shirtsleeves, and look like you're "doin' somethin' "
