Suit Jackets - back vents?

Double vents are the most practical and flattering to the figure. Of course, all of these, double, single, or none, often need to be fitted to the body in question to work well. Double vents sticking out is a problem with the particular cut and not inherent to the design.

Single vents were used on horseback, btw, not double.

I would always go double but other options are fine. Some (or many) would say that single vents are never appropriate on DBs or dinner jackets.

No, you need extra fabric for overlap.

I think you could if the jacket were oversized or just cut generously. You'd likely have to end up suppressing the waist and narrowing the sleeves.

This is all a guess, though; I am not a tailor, obviously.

I think a poorly-fitted single-vented jacket is actually worse than a double-vented jacket for guys with big butts. The center vent gapes permanently open across the butt and looks absolutely awful. The flap on the double-vented jacket at least covers the butt.

I'm with you on this one. I've always preferred ventless coats and jackets. That said, I have a few jackets that are double-vented and I don't mind that style at all.

I am not, however, a fan of single-vented jackets.
