Is there such a huge different between R sizes and L sizes among men's jackets of the same number size?

It seems the difference is usually an inch or so... and I understand that makes a big difference for anal-retentive perfection who inhabit this forum (

), but given that people choose to wear jackets slightly long over their behinds or slightly shorter per individual preference, is it "stylistically acceptable" for someone to shop and wear both R and L sizes?

What constitutes an S, R, or L depends on the maker. For example, Isaia suits are ridiculously long. I have to wear a short, and a am 5'11"

And I wear a 50Eu in brands like Helmut Lang, Costume National, or Dries van Noten, but take A 48 in more traditional makers like Corneliani (and even then, need the waist taken in a several inches, both on the jacket and the pants.) And in most American makers, I wear a 37, and can even squeeze into a 36 if I wanted a tight fit. And the nominal 6" drop is definitely vanity sized.

So in answer to your question, yes.

I thought it was more like 1.5 to 2 inches.

All you absolutely need is enough length to cover your behind.

Sorry, could you elaborate on this a bit? Are you saying that 6" drop is too much for the average joe?
