Here are two of the same jackets In different sizes. What are your thoughts? Does the left seem too small?

Based on the two photos provided the left (smaller size) one is better - by a mile (in my opinion).

1. First and foremost it has a nice sculpted waste which makes...

2. ...the armhole appear higher and, though the sleeve is narrower, makes your arm appear bigger.

3. Sleeve length is better on the left, revealing shirt cuff (you could perhaps take the sleeve down a quarter inch).

4. Body length is correct landing between the two knuckles on your thumb.

5. Shoulder is correct - you'll notice on the bigger size that there's a bump of fabric at the shoulder joint and a dimple just below.

6. More of the collar is sitting closer to the neck in the smaller size creating a more elegant line from the shoulder joint to the neck.

Thanks for the detailed response. I attached a couple back photos of the first one here as well for a different view. I thought the length was just right initially as well but others have said it’s too short and even the second fit was too short.

This is not a reliable way to judge a jackets length due to how much a persons proportions can very. Better to check if the jacket covers the rear and roughly bisects the body in half. In this case, both jackets are too short.

Personally I'm leaning towards the larger size, but I'd also want to trousers to be a looser fit than that.

From the back it looks a tad pinched, particularly around the small of the back. It's hard to see where the back of the jacket finishes in relation to the drop of the trousers.

The length hits right about where the inseam of pants start. I’ve read articles with conflicting view points on length. Some say shorter guys 5’8 and under it should end mid crotch with a jacket some say always cover the full crotch. With my hands relaxed by my side I can cup the bottom.

How can you tell measurement wise if it bisects the body? For reference I’m between 5’7-5’8 and the jacket is 29 inches measured from the back down.

Could you post another picture of the back with your hands by your side - I think when you have them tugged forward it's pulling the back of the jacket out of shape.

You can't. Post a full body picture from the back with the camera at mid body elevation.

The smaller jacket looks too shaped in the body for my taste and a little short in the body. Some people like this wasp-waisted silhouette but IMO it is a little dated at this point.

I think from the back the jacket is about a 1/2 inch to an inch too short. The jacket does look a little (only a little) tight at the back.

The waist is too cinched in and the jacket definitely too short.

For future reference, you need a full body picture, not ones with body parts outside the frame.

How do I judge the length on a jacket? To my eyes it covers my whole seat and I can cup the bottom with my fingers. Do you think letting the waist out bit would add a little extra length?
