This is a loofah such as is visible in the OP's photo. (I like the jacket as worn, BTW.)
Loofahs are vegetable sponges made from a tropical gourd. Their soft, stimulating fibers make loofahs a popular natural exfoliator. Use to smooth soles and elbows or anywhere with rough, dry skin. Can be used either wet or dry. Loofah measures 5".

I helped grow loofahs one time. It's a hell of a time getting them from gourd to sponge.

Too remain on-topic, it looks fine. This is a bit more streetwear and denim, but grey odd-jackets are not that strange and should be entirely acceptable even on this forum I think.
