Suit jacket critique

I recently purchased this DB suit from a fine igent, knowing that it would probably be a bit big in the body and possibly chest. The shoulders and body length seem pretty good to me, but the waist and chest fit somewhat swimmingly, and the sleeves could use a reverse foof. For a comparison, I included a pic of what used to be a fairly decent fitting blazer, now a bit snug around the, ahem, midsection (unlike many here, I have little need of suits/sportcoats in my day to day life, so don't keep current with such things. Trying to change that a bit though).
Pack it up and ship it out, or give it a shot?

I have definitely been more miss than hit with my ipurchases lately, sizewise. Kinda frustrating, but totally unsurprising.

The wrap (crossover) on that coat is way too wide for you. The buttons are so far apart. The coat makes you look much wider than you really are.

Are you suggesting a tailor will not be able to reasonably amend this? (I see that I neglected to infer this as an option in my original post--obviously the jacket is no good as it is.) Does the wrap then make altering a DB jacket more difficult than SB? If I understand correctly, by taking in the jacket from the back, the overly wide button stance would remain the same in front, i.e., no good?

The tailor cannot change the issue I have identified. The buttonholes are where they are and can't be moved, even if he could slim down the coat at the side seams and the back seam.

I would get rid of that DB and start wearing this blazer more often

Really? I think a narrower crossover with closer button spacing might actually make him look wider. What I don't like are the lapels. They have anti-bellies.

I disagree. I will try to dig up some pics of Truman (wide wrap) v. Bogart (narrow wrap). Similar build, but the difference in the way they looked was striking.

i disagree, i would keep both.

the DB just needs to have the waist trimmed up, and sleeves shortened.

I'd probably even trim the sleeves up a hair also.

I would say far too big for you.

the wide lap at the front looks as though the buttons were moved so as to bring the front in. although its new so probably not so. but it just looks strange. the bottom buttons are too close to the pockets.
what size is the suit, and what size are the trousers?

Goodwill bag for both of them. Maybe go to a store and try some things on? They have mirrors there to look at yourself and sometimes even people to help you.

Edit: The blazer really isn't so bad, that DB is awful though.
