I'm a senior in college, majoring in Finance and Accounting, so its time to get the right suit. I'm 6'4 and have a very athletic build, so it has been hard finding the right suit. I have tried numerous box stores (macy's, lord and taylor, jos a bank, century 21, ect) and haven't found anything that either fits good or looks good.
I recently went to a reputable tailor and asked to be fitted for a suit. He had me try on a couple jackets to get a basic size (46L) and then pulled out a couple suits that were already pinned back for other customers to get a better idea. He then pulled out a book of fabric, for color, and I went with a charcoal solid. He asked for a price point, which I said $500, and then said modifications would run another 150-200, so I negotiated down to $600 total, which I put half down. He said that he was going to order an Italian wool super 150 suit and call me back for the fitting.
As someone with relatively little experience with suits, does this seem normal and a fair price. What expectations should I have and what advice would you offer going forward. Thanks
