Suit fit advice for tall man

Hello Gentlemen,

I am new to this forum so I have much to learn. Currently I am shopping for a suit. I am 6'6" and about 205 Lbs. 42L seems to be the correct size. However my height leads to concern regarding jacket length in particular. Although not the best picture, this will hopefully serve as a starting point to get me in the right direction. I have been told this fits and I have been told it doesn't. What do you think?

Fit seems fine. Jacket might be short by some measures, but if you subscribe to the rule that the distance from top of collar to bottom of jacket should be the same as bottom of jacket to floor, it should be okay (you can use a measuring tape for this if you're anal about it). As long as the jacket covers your butt it should be fine, though it's hard to tell this from the picture. Your arms seem longer than typical so I would not use them to judge the length of the jacket body. Shoulders seem okay. Pants fit hard to tell especially with your leg bent, but looks okay. Can't say for sure based on just a single picture, but all signs seem positive.

Shoulders look wide. It's really hard to tell without a proper shirt or shoes. Pants are obviously way long but I assume you are posing in a unaltered suit in the store. Do they stock a 41?

Put on some shoes, but it looks like inseam is too long.

Dificult to tell - you need to wear a shirt and shoes to try on a suit.

Trousers far too long, coat ok but see above. Coat has no out-breast pocket and seems to be a gimmick. That is very odd, is it not finished. If 'yes' then throw it back and try something else.

The trousers are un-hemmed. They could be folded to simulate a hem, and the proper shoes would complete the look for a proper assessment, I agree. I will remember to wear a collared dress shirt next time. What is an "out-breast pocket?" The coat has a breast pocket (slanted) on the viewer's right side. But styling aside, I am trying to understand what a properly fitted jacket actually looks like on me. One store I visited recommended a MTM suit starting with a 42L to achieve 1.5 - 2 inches of additional jacket length.

It is unaltered. I will look for a 41L. This store did not have one. No sales person has offered a 41L, so I assumed they did not exist. Thanks for the advice. The jacket is pinned in back to simulate a suppressed waist. (I've been reading a little around here...)

I am definitely not sold on this suit. Just the first picture I have.

Thanks for the comments. The jacket (and most 42L jackets) covers my rear, but appears to be a bit short to my eye. Another sales man used a tape measure and determined I need a longer jacket. This will not be found off the rack I fear. I do have long arms. I thought this particular jacket's sleeves were the correct length. They stopped right at the change from my thumb to my wrist.

Will do! I'll fold the pants up over some shoes next time. Thanks for the advice.

I'm 6'4". About the same weight as you. I think the suit looks fine. Obviously the pants need hemming but to me it looks good. I know how hard it is to find a well fitting suit.

There's a collar gap (very well might not be with a proper shirt on.) and the pants need hemmed, but I'd say it's alright. Personally I'd have not chosen thin lapels if I were such a thin guy. Cuffs are about 1/2'' too long, but it's hard to tell without a proper dress shirt on (see a trend here).

It seems like alot of suits these days have thin lapels. After seeing examples of slightly wider lapels here, I do not think thin ones are a great choice for me. I am looking now for a more classic cut. Thanks, the point about wearing a dress shirt is noted.

Vertical stripes are a little dangerous for tall guys too. They make you look taller.

It's difficult to find a suit that fits this well when you're 6' 6", as am I. So what's the brand? I'd like to try it on, myself.

I'm 6'5 and wear a 44L in Chester Barrie. The overall length and sleeve length are perfect, whilst trousers come unhemmed.

As for the OP, here are the headlines:

- sleeves are too long
- shoulder are too wide
- inseam is too long

It isn't a very flattering cut and it seems a bit of a fashion forward suit. Go for something of a more classic cut with wider lapels, straight pockets, then have it taken it at the waist etc if need be.
