First post here. Sorry for the bad pics. That's the suit I just got. It's a 36R from Banana Republic. Need some advice on whether the double vents in the back flare out too much?

Yes, they do. They should flat, without the "duck tail."

Thanks for the input. What do you think about the sleeves? I ask because I'm not sure if I should go with a 38R or 38S.

I wouldn't go with a short--the 38R coat just covers your rear, and the 38S wouldn't do that.

And yes, the sleeves are too long. You should try to show a bit of shirt cuff, but that doesn't mean you have to buy a shorter coat. Just get the coat sleeves shortened. Everyone has his own idea of how much shirt to show, but generally between 1/4" and 1/2"--I'm probably midway at around 3/8".

You look young and fit, so the flaring vents will just look very modern on you. No problem there.

In addition to getting the sleeves shortened, you may also want to get them slimmed, at least around the lower arms / wrists.

I have to disagree with the post above, whether you're young or not so young, I've never seen any style expert suggest that's it's okay to have your vents lay anywhere but flat.

It looks awful, the vents should lie flat.

The photograph is really not suitable to judge sleeve length.

Ok thanks for the input fellas. I guess I'll try to go with one size up and stick to Regular instead of Small and see how I get on.

As long as the shoulders fit you, you can try a size bigger. Alter the sleeves if you have to.

Then you should wear regular or short size, definitely not a long.
