I have a company Holiday party coming up in about 2 1/2 weeks and am having trouble picking a tie color/pattern to go with my suit. I plan on wearing a Dark Charcoal with a very very light pinstripe. It's a two-button, side-vents, and pretty nice fit all the way through (already visited tailor). I will post pictures of said suit later tonight after work, along with color suggestions from this thread. Also, this event will be taking place at a local Casino/Resort and they picked a theme.... "Prom". Don't ask. **EDIT** - Forgot to mention I will be wearing a White dress shirt with a straight-point collar. **Added Pictures** #1

Solid Red tie....
The theme(prom) can't have any effect on what you wear........

I find white shirt / charcoal suit to be a very bland and uninspired look. Have you considered a different color shirt?

I know a white shirt is very uninspired, was hoping to spice it up via the tie.

Other options include a solid light green shirt, a blue shirt with a slight pattern (will have to post pic to show), a striped purple shirt with different shades of pink and purple, and a white shirt from Nordstroms with a very fine silver stripe.

I'll defer to the peanut gallery but I love charcoal/light blue/maroon. It is a bit of an understated look.

Can't go "wrong" with white shirt/silver tie either, although it is more of a dbaggy look. In this case try to spice up the silver tie with a design instead of plain.

The thing with charcoal suit / white shirt is that there is no actual COLOR that benefits or works well with that palette. That's why silver kinda works. Once you introduce a shirt color, you can wear a tie that will "pop" against that shirt. For this reason navy suits allow for more complex and interesting combinations that charcoal suits in general.

Solid red would definitely look sharp, might go this route (will have to buy one)

Was also leaning this route, but would the tie be too light against a white shirt? Not enough contrast?

If the theme is prom, you clearly need a novelty tie of some sort. Otherwise, you are just a guy in a suit.
