Suit Critique: Double Breasted Golden Fleece

So a while the downtown Los Angeles Brooks Brothers had some double breasted Golden Fleece suits in stock for $498, and that I had snapped one up.

After a wait for the alterations, and a further wait for the surgeon cuffs (and the suspenders buttons that were left off the first time), I finally went in to pick up the finished product today. It's the first DB suit I've owned in my adult life (I vaguely recall a DB blazer when I was six or seven...), and I'm pretty pleased with it. I think that I could probably have done with a bit more fitted a shape, but (1) DB doesn't seem to me to be particularly appropriate to have a fitted profile and (2) why screw up the nice herringbone lines by messing with the darts?

Anyway, post away on critiques/etc. As a bonus, vote in my poll on whether I should accept a job offer currently on the table in San Francisco. For reference, I'm a junior to midlevel associate at a large law firm, and would be making a lateral move (so the pay/status is the same) to a comparable firm.

The suit. I'm still not 100% used to braces, so some of the odd drape of the pants is probably due to my ongoing attempts to get it "just right."

The surgeon cuffs on display. Brooks Brothers' facility does a good job on the finishing of the holes, incidentally.

People will only notice the darts from very close up, a DB without waist suppression will make you look fat from across the room.

plus, I think you could taper a bit more from the sides.

Maybe.

^^ +1 to both, especially the second comment. The lines on the sides of that suit do not flatter your physique. The jacket currently makes your waist and hips look broader than your shoulders. Surpress the waist some and I think it will look much better on you. A similar change to an HF topcoat turned something I was on the verge or returning into something I can't wait to wear.

Also, pull up your waistband or shorten the trousers. There is a big pool of fabric around your ankles.

Fine looking suit in other regards. Is BB having as sale right now that I'm not aware of, or was this just random good luck while browsing BB?

Assuming you are wearing the trousers at your waist, then braces shouldn't hold them differently; they should just hold them in place without you needing to adjust them throughout the day.

A little more waist suppression will go a long way, imo. Pant legs are bunching up for some reason. Not sure if tapering is the answer...

Tapering in a DB is a matter of personal preference and period. In the 1930s, for example, DB suits were very fitted. For another take on a fitted DB, look at the John Steed character in the Avengers. The current POW also prefers a more fitted DB look. I join the others in thinking a bit more waist suppression would be good.

IMHO, you're either a bay area person or you're a SoCal person. I voted for SF0.

But that's subject to the caveat that you (1) aren't working for my firm and condidering leaving against the preferences of your colleauges. I don't want to be accused of suborning inter-office rivalry.

I'm definitely a Bay Area person. I'm from the East Bay originally but somehow wandered down here to continue my legal education.

What if I'm trying to join your firm?

Agreed. I think it makes you look bigger in the middle than you actually are or need to be.
