I found the same suit, two different stores. In store 1, I found a 38 R. It fits well, but the length of the jacket overall and sleeves need to be taken up -- and perhaps the sides slimmed down a bit. In store 2 I found a 38 S, which would need virtually no alterations to the jacket. The pants fit great on both suits.

The cost in store 2 (the better fitting 38 S), however, is approximately $200 more. Naturally I'd like to save the money, but want to make the right, more strategic purchase. (The price of the suit is in the $1,200 - $1,400 range.

Does anyone have any advice??????

You might ask if the store with the 38S will price match the other one. If they won't, then I'm inclined to think that at that price point, the difference is not excessively great. Besides, don't forget to factor in the cost of altering the 38R. In the end, the difference would, I think, be minimal. And it's not the best option to shorten a suit jacket anyway. I'd go for the 38S.

It's a no brainer. Buy the suit that fits with little or no alteration. Unless the price difference means you will only be eating PB&J for a while.

Sales are abundant now. You could do some more looking as well. Maybe find a better deal.

Better yet, if you're not buying from need, take note of the label information on the 38S and find it on sale or on ebay. You have the information you need to find a perfect fitting suit, and the leisure to find the perfect price.

If you can afford $1200 then $200 won't kill you.

if you need it, i'd go for the better fitting one. this is better than regretting later on that $200 you should have spent. if you don't need it for now, might as well skip it and look for it later on ebay or something.
