Greetings,

I am new to the site and was quite happy to discover like minded individuals that
actually enjoy shopping for themselves, and don't leave their ties knotted for years on end !!

So, that being said, here is my first thread - I am looking for new suits for the fall, and am trying to decide between MTM and OTR, as well as the price points. I am 34, 6.4 inches, 240 pounds and in decent shape(gym a couple times a week) big shoulders, longer torso, and unfortunately
more like a 45 and a half jacket, and size 37 waist (im working on it).

I have become addicted to tailoring, and am looking to start investing in a quality wardrobe.
I can wear a suit almost everyday to the office, but am not quite ready for either Pal Zileri, Canali etc or Bespoke (about 2-3 years away before I could wear them in the office).

I have been considering Coppley MTM, and am curious if anybody has any other suggestions given that 900-1000$ price point and my bodytype/size, as well as suggestions for the actual suit.

for example, whats a roll ? and any other points in MTM I should look out for ?

thanks

Welcome to the forum. With regard to a suit, 'roll' usually refers to the roll of the lapel as it meets the jacket body. Typically, you want roll: a creased flat lapel is bad.

Others can be more helpful with regard to MTM suits for ~$1,000. But I think a lot depends on what style you are looking for and what is geographically accessible. Also, for a little more, you can get something bespoke from WW Chan--a lot of forum members use him.

I'm in a somewhat parallel situation, perhaps more advanced in time and rounder in the middle.

I've been using English-American Tailors, which is a local factory outlet. They don't advertise to because it would undercut their full-price outlets. Sorry, but I don't know where Uxbridge is? Location is in Westminster, MD. They have clientele from No. VA, Delware and PA. First time I went there I finally got a suit to fit me. For $1000, you can get Super 140 Holland and Sherry. Better deal is the Super 120's for ~$625.

Regardless of where you go, know how you are going to use the suit, where you are using the suits, and what you want in the delivered goods (e.g. style of jacket, number of vents, fully functioning pocket, type of buttons.) If you are in the southern U.S. don't ask for mid-weight wool. If you intend to wear your suit(s)** at work and your work place dresses very conservatively (think established law firm) don't go for avante garde features or fabrics. Don't hestitate to ask for customized features (pleats in pants, work buttons on the sleeves). Try it on before you leave and insist they fix any issues before you accept it.

thanks, that is quite helpful. I am actually in Toronto, Canada location wise, and think im going to try the Coppley MTM first. further research has shown that its the best bet geographically, and im not ready for internet shopping yet.

thanks

RE the lapel roll, how does one ensure that this is maintained when one has a suit pressed or dry cleaned (which I know shouldn't be done too often)? Do good dry cleaners know what to do or does it need tdo be emphasized?
