Suggestions for Year-Round Blazer/Sport Coat

I'm in the market for one or two year-round blazers/sport coats and having a tough time deciding colors, fabrics and overall styles. This will be a major go-to piece of clothing for me on the days that I do not wear suits to work (which is slowly becoming few and far between, but still) and also for out-of-work events where a jacket is appropriate.

So, if you were getting TWO made-to-measure blazer/sport coats in the 400-600 dollar range (and these would be your ONLY two):
1) what colors would you suggest?
2) what types of fabrics for year round?

I have a navy blazer that fits pretty miserably, so navy is on my list for sure. But, I think I'd also like to get myself another color that would be useful year-round and with many outfits.

Linen or Cotton Navy Blue and Wool Herringbone Brown

Both can match a wide variety of outfits. Personally I like the new Rugby RL line up and they have a lot to choose from for a moderate price, and quality is pretty good!

Thanks for the input. Navy is an obvious must -- I wasnt sure if I should be doing a grey herringbone or a brown/tan family as the second.

Also, for the Navy -- where do you all stand on buttons? Brass? Gold? Neither?

I don't think of Linen as year round. +1 on a navy blazer and brown herringbone. I think a brown or grey birdseye sport coat certainly works.

Yeah, linen is a bad call. I would say a 10 or 11oz worsted.

Someone mentioned on another thread that brown is not a good summer colour for a suit and I assume a jacket. I agree this might be the case during the daytime but why not in the evening?

It depends on your coloring. I have a brown herringbone that I think looks best on me. Black or grey herringbone might look better on someone with darker hair than I have. As for buttons on the navy, I might stay away from gold or silver or whatever unless you really like the blazer look.

Year round? Blah. You need to avoid all the obvious summer/fall colours . You need to either sweat all summer or freeze all winter. Or both.

I think you're stuck with grey and blue

I think you are right about the issue of my coloring. I am Italian, with an Olive complexion and very dark hair and eyes. Truth is, I'm not too sure which colors look best on me. Thanks for that advice though, I'm going to have to do some swatch draping around my neck to see.

So you understand, this is just to build a starting point for a wardrobe and to make the money best spent. As for fabrics I was more concerned with what looks okay all year-round and less concerned with the functionality -- especially because I'm not too worried about freezing in the winters because I would likely wear an overcoat.

But, that said, your points are valid and are completely on my radar. I have no doubt that I would like to build upon this wardrobe and begin introducing seasonal clothing as time and money allow.

Thanks for the input!

My Navy coat has blue buttons, I think gold looks better and matches nicely when you throw it all together very nicely.

Gray Herringbone is nice but I feel like brown will match with more.

The two I use the most are both blue blazers, one summer weight and the other winter weight.

Summer weight SB in 9/10 oz Crispaire.

Winter weight DB in 13 oz H Lesser.
