I just got a couple jeans in the mail I bought from Attic on their 50% off sale. I knew I'd do it sooner or later blind buying without trying on before hand. Of the dozens and dozens of clothing items bought online I finally screwed up and didn't get the fit I wanted. So I'll be searching through the pinned jeans thread on this forum all night but I'd like some help on what I should do. I bought a pair of Sugar Cane 1966 Raw unwash selvage denim in 36" waist. I'm a true 34" waist (started working in hopes of losing weight too) and thought on these I should size up and shrink them down to size. Wrong decision.

So my question is what should I do here. I'd like to soak them and see if I can get them to shrink to what I want, but I'm thinking they wouldn't shrink enough. My inclination was to size up as I have larger thighs and then shrink them so the waist would fit better or even take them to the tailor and have him take in the waist. But, the thighs are much baggier than I thought they would be as well.

Anyways, in your guys opinions, since I am relatively new to denim compared to those here, should I try to soak them and see if I can get the desired fit, or would this be hopeless? Or would you just sell them, and size down to a 33" or 34"?

Below is the pair of 34" Nudie regular ralf selvage to compare to, that was also purchased and in which I like the fit. The spots are from the dirty mirror.

Canes shrink to tagged size. You've basically sized up two. A raw soak will help but if you're a 34 these are the wrong size for you. As a general rule of thumb for future purchases most Japanese denim shrinks to tagged size (unlike Levi's LVC).

Sugar Cane shrinks to the tagged waist size and then stretches out from there, so there's no way those are ever going to shrink enough for you. Sell them and try again.

Edit: CG beat me to it.

This is basically what I thought, but was hoping there would be a possibility. Looks like I'll go back to the drawing board and sell these and look for a new pair. Thanks guys.

For whatever it's worth, my first pair of SC Okis never stretched out. They were tagged as a 30 and stayed a 30 after 30 or 40 days of wearing them.

^Yes, but even if they don't stretch out they're still two sizes to large for him.

Don't soak them. Try to sell them - pre-soaked they'll probably command more money.

At 50% off (what $150) you might and up re-couping all your money, maybe more. Take the money and give the 1947 a go. Or take the money and buy an APC Rescue from Mauro - a size 32 or 33 will give you a fit along the lines (minus the leg flare and lower yoke) of those 34 RRDS.

Buy the way, are those nudies 32 or 34 length and how tall are you?

$150 is what they came out to with tax and shipping. I'm going to see if any friends want to buy them in the next couple days and if not, then I'll toss them on here and then ebay if no buyers. I'm just looking to recoup the $150.

I have a pair of APC rescues in 33 which are perfect and my go to pair. Sized them off the advice here and it worked perfectly. I must have had a brain fart when I bought the Sugar Canes.

I have Okis and 66s. I sized down on both, and stretched the waist. Here are my 66s:
