I'm receiving a moderate bonus in April, thought it was finally time to get a pair of good looking suede shoes. I'd rather not spend edward green/ Lobb money on these, as I'll only wear them to social events and on Sundays, thought a purchase of crockett and jones from Pediawear might be a good bet.

Question-- I'm looking at the Hallam in espresso suede; anyone own this color of suede from crockett and jones? How versatile is it (looking for suede laceups with a nice tailored shape to it, in a color of suede that will go with everything from gray flannel trousers or herringbone-tweedish jacket and oatmeal trousers to a navy suit.

Recommendations/ advice? I'd like to at least place my order within the next week-- pediawear doesn't appear to have a huge selection of C&J in suede, maybe my color options are limited?

Not sure how it would look with navy. IIRC it may be a little too dark. May be better served (with navy, at least) in something more medium brown.

hmmm....yes, maybe something in mink suede color instead? Anyone have an example? Someone sold some really nice looking C&J "Albany" model a while back, but I can't seem to find that one online. Damn, that 337 last is really something to look at, come to think of it.

aha! Thanks! Anyone know if pediawear or better yet Plal can get this particular shoe? I'll contact both of them by email, just wondering if I can find these shoes for less than $685; little more than I planned on spending but will if I absolutely have to.

The albany from ben silver is the same model shown from the linked styleforum member's photos, correct?

Both PLAL and Pedi do not have access to this shoe. I don't think I have even seen it at another retailer besides Ben Silver. Too bad as it is one of my favorite C&J out there.

The Drummond is in Mink Suede:

But I think the Belgrave in Polo Calf Suede goes better with navy:

ok, now leaning toward the belgrave-- this is from the handgrade collection, correct? Is this color of suede good with grey flannel as well as navy, or a gray glen plaid suit do you think? Will it work better than the mink suede color?

I like this color of suede the best in a C&J for year round wear. I also think it just looks more stylish. Although darker suede does have the advantage of showing less water spots when wet. It is a bit more forgiving with long term wear and tear, IMO.
