Suede Shoe Lining.....

I found on a model of higher-end (near $1k retail) shoes, which came in both calf-leather and suede options:

While the calf-leather version was made with a full leather inner lining, the suede variant was only partly leather lined around the top/visible area, with all the rest interior being textile (canvass?).

Can anyone say whether there could be any legitimate technical reason for this (e.g suede being for summer, better breathability/lightness etc.) - or can it only be for cost-cutting purposes?

Thanks.

Here's a bump, with some photographic evidence (also, excuse my ignorance, just want to confirm; this material is canvass, right?);

The canvas (yes, it is) won't stretch. Cheaper grades of "suede"...otherwise known as "splits"...will (no grain to prevent it)..

Thanks so much DWFII - great to have true expert input.

So is this given to mean the suede used on the upper for this shoe is lower-grade/split?

Could there be any possible technical reason for this difference in lining on the suede versions (for summer; breathability and/or lighter weight?), seeing as the same model in calf is fully leather lined?

Doing it just for the sake cheaping-out on the suede version seems illogical when the calf variant would have generally higher consumer demand (the style is a very traditional/classic Oxford).

Many thanks again.

I dunno...you'd have to ask them. But "cheaping-out" is more than a valid reason in the manufacturing world...it is often the raison d'etre.
