Here's what I did with my new EG Galway's.
First, I brushed the suede with horsehair brush (suede brush works too).
I then applied Saphir Renovateur Suede & Nubuck Conditioning Spray
I let that dry.
Then I applied Saphir Super Invulner Waterproofing Spray.
Brushed the suede again after letting the waterproofing spray dry for an hour.
So far the suede is in great shape (ok, it's only been a month, but I've had it out the rain, etc.).
After I use the shoes, I give the suede a quick brush. Usually with just my horsehair brush (obviously a clean brush).

This is the procedure that Hanger Project & Trenton & Heath generally recommend. I've been very pleased.

One thing: spray the shoes outside! The sprays smell bad.
