suede loafers

i have several pairs of alden brown suede loafers -- basically a penny loafer out of suede. i like them a lot but i'd now to try a pair that are a bit more elegant looking -- longer and sleeker, more dressy versus casual, i guess.

any recommendations?

The shoes that JCusey references are all classics, but bring money (the Lopez penny loafer now sells for $880 at Bergdorf, up at least $300 from just a few years ago-when I should have bought it). I don't know whether you own the Alden "dressier" full strap, shorter vamp penny loafer already in suede, or would even consider it, but it's available by special order. http://<a href="http://www.aldenshoe...e3_686.htm</a>. On the other hand, I can't imagine the Alden quality being comparable to the Lobbs. I'm sure JCusey is more qualified to address this subject, if you want to ask him.

I certainly agree with you regarding JL Paris's prices. Lopez is a beautiful shoe, but I wouldn't pay $880 for it. I don't like the low vamp of that Alden shoe, but I do like the apron set back from the edge of the shoe. Chorse's C&J shoe is a better variation on this design.

I have both the C&amp;J Eaton snuff suede and the Alden full strap low vamp. The C&amp;J has a longer vamp and more traditional styling-it's useful with cords and khakis but I don't wear it with flannels. The Aldens are in the no-man's land of the &quot;formal&quot; penny loafer (an oxymoron?). Can't wear them with suits but I guess ok with a blazer and flannels.

To change the subject just a little bit. I'm on the hunt for a loafer, preferably not a penny loafer, to be worn with jeans. I love some models from Tod's but they are no where to be seen here in Sweden. Any suggestions?

One more suggestion on the suede loafers: http://benniesshoes.com/grenson8.5.htm Check out #14. I know this might not be your size, but I know that Grenson offers the Radley in medium brown suede (word of caution--the heel cup sits a bit high). If Bennie's doesn't have what your looking for, I also recommend calling Paul Stuart at the Mad Ave store--IIRC, they had a few loafers in brown suede remaining as of 1.5 weeks ago. Out of the recommendations made, I think the JL Paris campus loafer is your best bet, or try calling the JM Weston store on Mad Ave or the Boston boutique and check to see if they stock the 180 in your size. Heck, they might even have something on sale (I've never seen the calf on discount FWIW).

Kaga told me that the Japanese outlet superbrandstreet.com has an Edward Green suede loafer on clearance around $450. Gorgeous but I think only one size. If the site doesn't work try searching on Green on www.hapima.com
