I did a search on this forum, but everything is outdated and/or inconclusive...

Can someone who knows advise me....which brand first made this kind of shoe? Are they still the definitive makers? Does anyone know any good brands?

any advice gratefully appreciated

Does anyone know how the Walk-Over suede derbys compare with the Mark McNairy suede bucks? They look pretty similar, walk-over is US made whereas MM is Northampton made....does anything justify a price difference?

I purchased both a Ralph Lauren pair and a Yukten pair. If buying online be sure to inquire as to whether they are the rough suede or the nubuck type. I partidcularly wanted the rough suede as in the 50's and 60's with the red sole. the Yukten ones were on a close out deal so I can afford to replace the leather sole with the red. Why two pair? One to get dirty and one for cleanup fancy.

Bass do a nice looking one in off white. The standard style is a bit blobby looking so you might have a tough time avoiding that. If you want some snazzy colours look at duckie brown.

Does anyone have firsthand fit experience with the "new" Walk-Over bucks? http://www.shoeline.com/brand/Walkover.asp My main concern is that they are not available in wide, but I also realize that a buck is not a particularly narrow shoe. Just wondering if any forum members had purchased or tried on these for fit.

I just received my first pair of Lands' End Bucks and they've exceeded all of my expectations. I thought that I'd race to return them to my local Sears, but now I think they may as well become one of my favorite summer shoes. Of course, I got them with a 40% off + free shipping coupon.

+1 on Lands End bucks. I picked up dark brown ones on sale for $50 -- a very comfortable and stylish shoe that was much better than I expected.

They've had them in brown, too? They only have the off-white now. Depending on how comfortable/sweaty they turn out to be, I would buy more in different colors. I hope they bring them back.
