I'm considering suede boots for an everyday kinda shoe, something to pair with flannels, flannel suits, jeans, ect.

Though I've been warned by many I've yet to experience the downside of wearing suede in the rain. I'd like to hear your experiences with suede as a year-round boot. Of course dianite soles and suede dont make any sense unless the whole thing is a bit over blown.

If it makes a difference the ones i'm considering are dark brown.

I've been looking for a pair for a while but have been holding off. I am very interested to hear what people think.

What about suede chukkas in snow? No-no?

Do you have any particular chukkas in mind?

C&J Tetbury. Not for snow boots obviously, but for those sorta slushy days the day after. Its sad that my only rain shoe is a cordovan tassel at the moment.

^ I essentially have those boots (made for Polo), and do find that they are very "hard" when walking; not the most comfortable in that sense. Otherwise I love them, but do not let them ever see bad weather. Spills and such on the other hand, are a bit of a problem I don't know how to fix -- they have a few marks on them already.

Oh, I didn't see your comment about slushy day after -- that suede is going to wick the water right through to your toes the moment slush laps over the sole. And the included salt will kill it.

I have also considered this option for everyday use. I find that chukka boots straddle that desirable line of not being overtly "dressy" but are not quite sneaker trendy(er, I think I know what I am saying); this something I desire at the moment. I have been putting off buying a nice pair because at the moment I need other sartorial items (you know, like more trousers that fit well). If I had the means to splurge, those pictured above would be a great addition to my daily wear. at the moment, I currently wear sneaker Chukkas by keds with lining that matches. As far as the weather concern, I didn't feel hesitant to put some suede water protectant on my cheap chukkas. I can't remember now if they discolored them or not, since it's been a while.

I wore those exact C&Js during a Pennsylvania winter, out in the countryside. Like edmorel said, I didn't wear them in deep snow, but I did wear them in moderate slush and never had a problem. They still look good.

If you want to see what happens, why not try the $158 chocolate suede wingtips with dainite soles from J.Crew? I love mine.

You guys are definitely confirming my suspicions since my understanding is that they were made as a countryside shoe and the better the suede the more resilient they are.

Vass suede and cordovan, Mantellassi suede and calf, Sanders suede with red brick sole, a C&J POS that I wear to garden, something else but I don't remember what.

I wear suede chukkas all year. I have the Alden ones with the oiled sole and they are great in the rain and what little snow we get in the south.
