I'm just glad my tax dollars aren't paying for a Volvo or an Infinity or something.
I have a follow-up to this. I saw the same mother and her child this morning on the train. The little girl was stepping around with every motion of the train like they tend to do. I witnessed the mother bend down towards her and say, "watch out for his shoes, ok?" This woman deserves a medal. She clearly saw me cringe when her daughter stepped on my foot last time. What a woman.
That's pretty awesome.
Faith in humanity is restored, just a little.
I will destroy it for you, wsa:
The Rain Man
This is one of the most contemptible of all the douchebags that ride the train. This person will frequently place the following onto a train seat, thereby trashing it and ruining the seat for the next person:
1. Completely soaked umbrellas
2. Wet shoes (where water can be from rain, snow, slush)
3. Muddy shoes
Embarassed Beverage Owner
Just as bad is when someone leaves a half full cup of coffee or snapple bottle with the lid not fully closed, it gets knocked over and spills everywhere. That person is too embarassed to pick it up, wet shit all over some seats and then on the floor touching my leather soled shoes
Whenever there is a mass of people descending/ascending the stairs to get from subway to street level or vice-versa, this distracted asshole suddenly puts on the brakes and decides he needs to start moving contra-traffic.
It's even more enjoyable when you're walking behind one in less-confined quarters and they suddenly pivot on their heel and walk into you.
One-Way Charlie also appears when a mass of people are coming up the stairs and this guy is stepping one everybody's heads and pushing people out of the way to try to get the train. If there is this mass of people 99% of the time the train is gone already so why rush to the platform?
I want to add-another:
The Fare Hiker This is the asshole that jumps over, or goes under the turnstyle and gets a free ride. Fares are going up astronomically in NY each year, partly because we are subsidizing these assholes. I really want to go berserker on them. Yesterday, this little Asian girl jumps the turnstyle and then rode the train for 1 FUCKING STOP. That happens to be two blocks. Just walk you, fuck!
I have also, added to the original list and attempted togive credit where credit is due.
I would add everyone who feels the need to stop to check email/talk on phone either as they get to the top of the stairs, or as they are about to go down.
NO ELECTRONICS IN SUBWAY FOR 2012!
Not a type of person, but a type of train that annoys me - The Vomit Comet. The last train of the day after pub/club closing time. Loud, arrogant arseholes in Stone Island clothing on their way back from a night out in some tacky overpriced club being sick in any available corner. Generally accompanied by a bloke sat slumped semi-unconscious holding an open can of Stella, surrounded by a puddle of what may or may not be urine.
Yes! Or. They... significantly... slow... down...... because some people are utterly incapable of walking and checking their phones at the same time.
I deal with these folks everyday. My home subway is in Chinatown. Chinese women, young or old, but typically middle age and above, have no concept of people needing to exit the train. I gotten so sick of it that I'll just walk into them when getting off the train, forcing them to move aside.
And I feel better after I do it.
There's this barricaded driveway of sorts in front of the state Capitol. Always some Escalades and big GMC Yukons with state license plates in there. These dudes ain't driving no Honda Civic.
According to the NYC MTA rules and bylaws:
"No person shall bring or carry onto a conveyance any liquid in an open container."
Many subways completely ban the consumption of food and beverages on trains. Although if there is any enforcement of this, that's another matter.
Myself, I think the idea of eating my breakfast, lunch or dinner on a subway train or bus to be rather unappealing.
Subway stations in Japan can be pretty crowded so everyone generally sticks to the rules. On the stair there are arrows designating where to walk up and down and everyone shuffles along together in their lanes.
The other day I was shuffling along going up the stairs in a big crowd, head down lost in thought when the people in front of me start veering to the right bumping into the people beside them. Suddenly this big white dude coming down the wrong way grabs me by the shoulders and yells “get out of the fucken way”! As he pushed me I reflexively shifted my weight and hip tossed him down the stairs. He bounced down about 10~15 steps on his back luckily for him it was too crowded for everyone to get out of his way or he probably would have bounced down almost a whole flight. I turned around looked at him, he had a panicked look on his face, I just laughed and said "stupid prick", turned around and walked off. Everyone around me just kept walking head down ignoring the whole scene, very Japanese.
Why would that matter? Pregnancy is not a disease and the elderly are going to die soon so fuckem.
I took my cat to the vet by train, she was in a cage, the fuckers made me buy a special ticket for her!
