Hi,

I just bought a Ring Jacket shacket/overshirt for spring and summer use à la:

Do you think this would be good with a pocket square or does the inherent shirt's casualness clash with the formality of pocket squares.

Or should I just keep it simple and wear it like the guy in the figures?

What is your opinion on styling the overshirt?

You could. But it has to be a more casual material (not straight linen or silk) and in a fold that doesn't look too neat: maybe a poof, not a tv fold or anything with points. A good pattern would also be good.

I would put my sunglasses in there, with one leg of the frame hanging out. Adds some visual interest without looking forced, because everybody carries around sunglasses in the summer.

It's one of those things that seems like it should work, but almost never does, IMO. Pocket squares are very specifically associated with tailoring, to the point where even an unusual blazer like a cotton work-blazer is a little jarring.

On the other hand, I think scarves can work. Mostly because Jamie Ferguson did it so very well:

But also because there are no formal associations, it's kinda... open season, you know?
